1st Race of the Season is in the books

last updated on 6/10/2013

The 49th race season got underway this past Sunday and not without a few showers, as rain has seemed to plague the raceway so far this year. Working around the rain showers Spud Speedway and its dedicated racers did their best to offer a very entertaining show. This was the first race for the highly anticipated Coca Cola Outlaw Sportsman series. This is a new rule package which combines all types of Super Streets, Late Models, and Prostock type cars racing together under one set of rules that equalizes them through weight and tires. If this past weekends racing is any indication of what this new rule package has to offer, it is going to be a great season to be a race fan. Throughout the 2 heats and the feature every racer was able to find their way to the front of the pack and they were virtually inseparable during all 3 events. Jason Levesque proved to be one of the strongest cars all day long as he won the first heat race by just a few inches over John Albair one of our most seasoned veterans at the track. During the second heat, Levesque battled lap after lap with Dillon MacDougal with MacDougal taking the second heat. During the feature MacDougal seemed as if he was racing with a purpose as he raced to the front of the field and held off many challenges by a very well handling Levesque. After it was all said and done MacDougal edged the field and captured the first Coca Cola Outlaw Sportsman Race of the season. During the interview we found out Dillon was racing with a purpose and wanted to win since his grandfather and long time Spud Speedway racer, Dave MacDougal, had passed away over the winter. This win was dedicated to him in an emotional victory lane. In our other divisions we saw great side by side racing as well. The Aroostook Trusses Northern Lights showed the race door to door for several laps in a multi car pack as Don Rideout, Wayne Fox, and Shawn Dewley showed power as the found their way to the front, in the end Rideout ended up victorious this week but found out that the other racers may have something for him in weeks to come. Canadian Muscle Matt Lloyd topped the rest of the field in the Percy Auto Sales Fast Fours with a very fast mustang. In the street stock division John Dixon and JR Howlette raced door to door and Dixon held off a late race charge from Howlette to win the feature. First time racer John Craig, won the Challenger Series event as he swept both heats and the feature in a car that has seen many laps at our speedway. Tyler Raymond put on an exhibition with his Sr. champ Kart to show everyone just how fast and how safe these race karts are. All in all a good day a the track with some exciting racing. Racing returns Sunday, June 23rd at 1:00 as the Canadian Atlantic Open Wheel make their annual visit to the only US race track that they visit. Make sure to mark the date on your calendar and get out to enjoy a full day of racing at Northern Maine's Center of Speed!

Weekend Schedule Change

last updated on 6/6/2013

Well it looks like Mother Nature is going to be an issue for the 3rd week in a row and will impact our season. Due to the weather forecast for Saturday we are making the following adjustment to the weekends schedule. Saturday's scheduled events will be rescheduled as planned to Sunday at 1:00 Our Aroostook Technologies Day of Destruction will be rescheduled to a later date which will be announced in the next day after we realign our schedule. We apologize for any inconveniences this is causing, but we do not control the weather and we felt an early announcement would be better due to racers coming from downstate for both events. The Speedway 95 Invitational will still happen on this Sunday and we hope to see you all there!
