SPUD SPEEDWAY NEWS ARCHIVEDemo Derby Just Got Betterlast updated on 8/1/2025The Northern Maine Fair Association and Spud Speedway are joining together to offer a two part demolition derby series which will crown one overall champion at the end of both of their respective events. The rules package is the same at both events, so racers do not need to modify their equipment in any way. The points system will work as follows: At each event a score keeper will keep track of the cars involved and establish a finishing order. This will be based on when a car is finished moving and no longer able to compete in the event. At the end of both events we will add the competitors finishes together and the driver with the lowest score(best average finish) will be crowned the overall champion and be awarded an extra $300.00 above and beyond the payouts of each event. (example: a driver finishes in 1st place at the fair would get 1 point and 4th place at Spud Speedway they would get 4 points. They would have 5 points for the two combined events. Another driver finishes 2nd at both events would have 4 points and be awarded the championship because they would have the best overall average finish. ) In the event of a tie the car with the best finish at Spud Speedway would be awarded the championship, this would be the breaker. The fair is hosting their demo derby on Saturday, August 6th and Spud Speedway will host theirs on Saturday, September 17th at their Day of Destruction. New Racer's Get a Free Daylast updated on 7/28/2011If you have a race car ready to race and you have not been at Spud Speedway this year to race, Sunday August 7th is for you! All new racers will be welcomed at the pit gate with a free pass for one into the pits and free entry of your race car into the race. It's your chance to experiance Spud's way of racing. We have worked hard to rebuild the speedway and make it fair for all competitors to be able to have fun. If you have been to Spud, please help spread the word to all of your friends. We hope to see many new faces return to the raceway. last updated on 7/22/2011We are pleased to announce another addition to the Feed the County Summerfest concert on August 20th. The Kelly Parker Band will be joining in the festivities and will take the stage prior to Neon Highway. Kelly Parker is a local girl who grew up in Washburn, Maine and went south to chase her dreams. An Energetic and Fresh Face who is edgy and atop of her game, Kelly has fronted various New England acts as Black Pearl, The Cross Country Band (featuring David Malachowski former Band leader and Lead guitarist of Shania Twain) now the Kelly Parker Band. Combining personal heartfelt songs with a contagious stage show that is high energy, Parker is making herself known throughout New England and beyond, evoking modern yet classic country with a pinch of Red Dirt, creating a sound that is uniquely Kelly Parker. Parker has had the opportunity to share the stage with countless honorable industry acts to name a few: Josh Tuner, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Jo Dee Messina, Bridgette Tatum, Keith Anderson, Jeff Bates, Doug Stone, Joey + Rory, Darryl Worley, Steve Holy, Blackhawk, Sammy Kershaw, the Williams Riley Band and most recently Clint Black and Ayla Brown. Singing is like breathing for Kelly. Entertaining is like flipping a light switch on when you walk into a dark room… it comes natural and effortlessly… Yet Parker works hard at her craft, making noise to be seen and heard whenever possible while she’s climbing that ladder and paying her dues. This is just another reason you don't want to miss your chance to attend the party of the summer at Spud Speedway. Be sure to get your tickets today!!!! Racing to Save a Life to raise funds for AmericanThe American Red Cross-Pine Tree Chapter will be Racing to Save a Life next month at Spud Speedway in Caribou and is looking to the community for financial support. On Saturday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m., the American Red Cross — along with event sponsors The Bank of Maine, The County Federal Credit Union, Griffeth Ford Lincoln, Balance BPO, Spud Speedway, The Star-Herald and the Aroostook Republican — will draw raffle items during the night’s event which will feature two death-defying car crashes by Maine stunt driver Jim “Crash” Moreau of Bangor. Moreau, a veteran of traveling stunt shows for 40 years, is a member of the Circus Fans Association of America and the Carnival Historical and Model Builders Society. He has been listed in many volumes of “Marquis Who’s Who” over the years and is a member of the New England Showmen’s Association. “Racing has always been popular here in The County and we wanted to combine racing with a fundraiser that would benefit the American Red Cross,” said Scott Johnson, Racing to Save a Life chair. “Tom Clukey of Clukey’s Auto Supply has generously donated two tickets to the Sept. 25 NASCAR race in Loudon, N.H. For anyone who has never been to the New Hampshire track, it’s a beautiful facility and always a lot of fun and excitement. This is a great prize for any race fan.” “Knowing that NASCAR driver Greg Biffle has the American Red Cross as a sponsor and is a member of their celebrity cabinet, we decided to approach his team and see if we could acquire some raffle items,” he said. “Biffle’s team has donated an American Red Cross Racing/Greg Biffle wooden sign, three hat/shirt packages, and three die cast cars personally autographed by Biffle himself.” Other raffle prizes include a $125 gift card to Walmart, a three-month fitness membership to either the Caribou or Presque Isle Inn & Convention Center and two tickets to the third annual Spud 150 at Spud Speedway Sept. 3. One dollar of every ticket sold at the gate Aug. 27 will also be donated to the American Red Cross. Collection buckets will be positioned at the concession stand so patrons can donate their loose change, and Red Cross volunteers and board members will be on hand to sell raffle tickets that night, as well. According to Joyce Knorr, Aroostook County branch manager of the American Red Cross-Pine Tree Chapter, this event could bring in some much-needed funds. “The local economy is still struggling. Individuals, especially those on a fixed income, are having to be very frugal about where they spend their dollars. People just do not have a lot of disposable income to donate and most are tightening their budgets,” she said. “While non-profits are all vying for the same dollar, the local chapter of the American Red Cross has seen a downfall of donations this year. City and town budgets are being cut, creating some loss of support to the Red Cross. Our chapter already operates off a shoestring budget, but we are having to cut our budget even more which puts the demand on raising funds for local disasters in high gear. “Every time disaster funds go out to provide immediate emergency services, they must come back in to take care of the next disaster victim,” said Knorr. “This event and raffle is a great way to support the local American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund while enjoying a great night of fun and excitement, as well as the chance of winning a great prize.” Raffle tickets are $2 for one or three for $5 and can be purchased from Red Cross Advisory Board members and disaster volunteers or during the night of the race. For more information, call 493-4620, ext. 108. A rain date of Sunday, Aug. 28 has been scheduled.
